About Savannah

Savannah's roots trace back to 1733 when General James Oglethorpe established it along the Savannah River, christening the 13th American colony as Georgia in honor of England’s King George II. The city played pivotal roles during the American Revolution and Civil War. Today, it proudly hosts one of the nation's largest National Historic Landmark Districts.

The Savannah River, teeming with a diversity of wildlife, demarcates most of the Georgia-South Carolina boundary before meeting the Atlantic. Covering 5,821 square miles in eastern Georgia is the expansive Savannah River Basin.

Modern-day Savannah River Street, transformed from old cotton warehouses, is an entertainment hotspot. It houses nearly 100 establishments ranging from eateries and pubs to inns, boutiques, and historic sites. The Plant Riverside District, unveiled in 2020, further enriches the city's entertainment offering with myriad dining options, shops, art venues, and a luxurious JW Marriott hotel.

The Port of Savannah is North America's fourth-largest port for shipping container traffic. In 2022, the port handled 5.7 million, 20-foot equivalent container units. The city's growth is further propelled by manufacturing, military operations, tourism, and esteemed institutions like The Savannah College of Art and Design. Major corporations such as Gulfstream Aerospace, International Paper, Titlemax, and JCB have also established their headquarters in this vibrant city.

Calling Savannah Home

Savannah seamlessly intertwines its storied past with a promising future. Many new home communities and neighborhoods are under construction in the Savannah area. These developments don't merely erect contemporary homes; they pay homage to the region's architectural legacy. A prominent feature in many of these homes is the classic Lowcountry design - a style deeply rooted in the South's coastal plains and marshlands. With expansive porches, elevated foundations, and tall windows, the Lowcountry aesthetic not only captures Savannah's heritage but also provides practical solutions for the region's humid climate.

Furthermore, in a nod to modern advances, many of these homes incorporate innovative construction techniques aimed at energy efficiency. By leveraging the time-honored traditions of the Lowcountry design, builders in Savannah are ensuring that homes are not only aesthetically pleasing but also sustainable. Features like reflective roofing materials, efficient insulation, and advanced HVAC systems are seamlessly integrated, reducing homeowners' energy footprints and utility bills.

In essence, Savannah isn't merely evolving; it's embracing the best of both worlds. As the city continues to flourish, it remains grounded in its rich history, even as it builds homes and communities fit for the 21st century and beyond.
