It’s no secret that we think South Carolina is one of the best states to relocate to, but word is getting out and experts continue to agree again and again! The state was named No. 2 as the top move-in destination in the country by United Van Lines’ 39th Annual National Movers Study. The study tracks customers’ state-to-state migration patterns each year and named Oregon No. 1 with an inbound rate of 69% and South Carolina right behind at 63%. Oregon has slowly made its way to the top, holding steady for the second year in a row, with inbound migration increasing by 10% over the past six years.
The three top reasons United Van Lines found that people have relocated to Oregon and South Carolina are new job opportunities or a job transfer, retirement, and to be closer to family. But United Van Lines isn’t the first to cite South Carolina as a fabulous destination to move to. Forbes also published a report by Francisco-based real estate service, Trulia, which ranked Charleston as the No. 2 “Hot Real Estate Markets to Watch in 2016”—and not just for its temperatures! The city is a go-to destination for its increasing job growth, combined with its affordability.
Even if you’re not in the market to buy, Charleston is still a great place to visit. In fact, Travel + Leisure fans readers have voted Charleston as No. 2 on their 2015 list of “Destination of the Year.” We have no doubt you’ll fall in love with the city on day one, and it’s clear many travel experts agree.
