It started with a vision and some big questions.
How can the Charleston region grow in a smart and healthy way – while maintaining the local flavor that’s made it so adored?
How do we create a next-generation job center that sparks innovation and passion?
What does Lowcountry living look like in 5, 10, or 15 years?
Can technology make us more connected, to each other and to the world at large?
All these questions added up to a single answer: the community you know as Nexton.
Smart growth for Charleston
It’s one thing to ask the questions; it’s an entirely different thing to have the right answers. To start finding them, the
Nexton folks reached out to the community.
“When we talked to community members, it was clear there was a lot to love about Summerville and the Lowcountry in general. The lifestyle is one-of-a-kind, and Charleston is internationally celebrated due to its rich culture, coastal location, and friendly atmosphere,” Brent Gibadlo, Nexton’s Vice President and General Manager, said.
“But we also discussed ways to make every day living a little better,” he said. “Time is the most precious commodity in today’s world. We wanted to give our homeowners, campus employees, and Summerville in general some of their time back. Bring jobs here. Retail here. Proximity to conveniences became a driving force.”
Placing commercial areas directly off Interstate 26 and attracting world-class businesses gave people the ability to work where they also live. In the Front Street District, tenants like South Carolina Research Authority, ATI, and Palmetto Primacy Care became the start of the region’s third job center.
“Our vision was to see people spending less time in their cars and more time with their families,” Brent said. “Starting by building a thriving commerce center showed people we were serious about making our vision a reality.”
Loving where you live in Summerville
Brighton Park Village launched in 2015 as
Nexton’s first residential neighborhood. Driving through, you’ll find traditional Lowcountry colors and architectural details flavor each and every home. Streetscapes feel organic, evolved-over-time, and floorplans are as varied as the people that live there. The builders -
Pulte Homes,
Saussy Burbank, Ashton Woods, David Weekley, and Homes by Dickerson – were selected for their commitment to exceptional design and unmatched quality.
Del Webb Nexton arose next, welcoming active adult families to the Lowcountry, and North Creek by True Homes was established in 2017 to introduce even more price points and floorplans. The idea is that no matter where you are in life or family size, you’ll find a place at Nexton perfectly suited to you.
“The way people live today means something different to different demographics and stages of life. Single parents, multi-generational families, individuals, the family of four, empty nesters, active adults into 80s and 90s—there's no sort of standard to our homebuyers,” Brent said. “We chose development and builder partners that we knew could bring something special to each and every potential homeowner.”
Outside the homes of Nexton, life is designed to be dynamic, social, and connected. Neighbors connect at summer concerts and impromptu playdates in the parks. On after-dinner bike rides on trails. And at parties at the swim club. This active, connected lifestyle also includes a dedication to education: schools are state-of-the-art. From new homes, schools and parks to offices, shops and restaurants, this master-planned community is fully connected with cutting-edge Giga-Fi technology.
Built-in convenience
Integral to everything at Nexton is an adherence to making life more convenient “To us, thoughtful design means more than how a home or neighborhood looks; it’s how everything works together to make modern life more convenient and more fulfilling,” Brent said.
One of the places you’ll find this interconnectedness most palpable is in emerging Nexton Square. The new shopping and dining center are bringing Charleston favorites like Hall’s Chophouse, Taco Boy, and Poogan’s Porch, as well as conveniences like dentists, optometrist, and a variety of retailers, to their corner of Summerville. That means homeowners can take a walk down Brighton Park Boulevard Trail to grab dinner, drinks, knock out some errands, do some shopping…just about anything. All without setting foot in car.
In fact, Nexton’s walkability is one of its most appealing qualities. Parks and greens spaces are connected via a network of trails and sidewalks, literally knitting the community together. Nexton Elementary School is nestled in the center of Brighton Park Village, an MUSC campus is coming to life along Nexton Parkway, and Home Telecom has just announced a high-profile commercial office and retail center in the Parkway District.
For trips to and from Charleston, Nexton Parkway Interchange, which opened in May 2018, takes Nexton from highly convenient to ultra-connected.
"Nexton Parkway Interchange, along with new medical and educational services, housing, shopping and entertainment opportunities, and the region’s next employment and commerce center – all located here at Nexton – allows us to enhance the quality of life not just for everyone at Nexton, but people throughout the region," Brent said.
Shopping, dining, work, play. A connection to greater Charleston. The state’s fastest internet speeds to connect to the world at large. It all comes together at Nexton.
