New Shopping Center Coming to Nexton in Summerville SC

Berkeley County will be welcoming a new shopping center in the bustling Nexton community. Hendon Properties, an Atlanta developer is planning to open a 28-acre retail site on Hwy 176, across from the Market at Cane Bay, currently home to Publix and a host of retail stores and restaurants. Proposed plans feature a three-story storage facility surrounded by a collection of 260,000 square feet of smaller retail stores and restaurants, coupled with two currently unnamed larger anchor stores. These new stores will be convenient not just for residents at Nexton but for residents at Cane Bay, across the street, and for Carnes Crossroads, just round the corner.

This area is rapidly growing and the pace isn’t expected to stop as construction is underway at Volvo’s new facility just west of these communities which will bring with it an abundance of new jobs. Nexton reported in September to the Summerville Chamber of Commerce that they are emerging as the region’s third major job center. Volvo is joined by world-class companies such as SCRA and WestRock that have made Nexton their home base. Smaller businesses like Carolina Ale House, Courtyard Marriott and Starbucks are all thriving since opening in Nexton.

Residential options at Nexton continue to grow as well. North Creek, Nexton's second residential village constructed by TrueHomes, has opened to immense success. Del Webb has just broken ground on a third village, Del Webb Nexton. This active adult community will have the first-class resort-style amenities for which Del Webb is famous… heated indoor & outdoor pools, fitness center, tennis, pickle ball, Bocce, 50+ miles of nature trails, parks, resident-led social clubs, full time Lifestyle Director and of course lightning-speed internet access. These residential communities will be joined by Alta Brighton Park, a Class-A apartment community.  

The list of upcoming retail options slated to open in 2018 keeps growing too… Residence Inn is anticipated to open next summer, bringing with it 30 new jobs. Palmetto Primary Care will open in their new 100,000 SqFt space, offering the community primary and specialty care services, imaging, labs and an urgent care center.  Baker Automotive has plans in the work to open a new dealership at Nexton that will be above and beyond what you might have imagined: a 30-car showroom, a food court, an outdoor entertainment and event space, a children’s play area and a car wash facility! Harris Teeter will be moving into a 76,000 square feet space at the intersection of Brighton Park Boulevard and Nexton Parkway. Nexton Square will open with a variety of popular restaurants (featuring outdoor dining options) and retail in an appealing walkable retail environment.

All of these new options will be more easily accessible as the Nexton Park Interchange opens early in 2018. In addition to providing easy access to the future Nexton Town Center, this interchange will serve as a major transportation artery for Berkeley County and will ultimately connect to Highway 78 in Summerville.
