If you are a current homeowner and are hoping to sell your home in order to move into the new home of your dreams, check out these great tips from Zillow to boost your home’s value. Not only will your home be worth more but it will improve how it shows to potential homebuyers. It’s a great list of projects to tackle on over the fall and winter months so that you’re ready to list when spring selling season rolls around. It’s not uncommon for new homes take about six-eight months to build so the timing could work out just right!
In the kitchen… Create a stylish backsplash with adhesive tiles.
Most home improvement stores offer a variety of styles and sizes of adhesive backsplash tiles. They are painless to install and have none of the mess that comes with grouting traditional tile. The process is easy. Just wipe your walls down with warm, soapy water and then follow the installation directions. Be sure to remove any outlet covers prior to starting. Typically they suggest you work from left to right and bottom to top. Should you need to remove or reposition tiles they will come right off with the heat from a hair dryer.
In the bedroom…Install crown molding to add a touch of elegance.
If you’ve been shopping for a new home you’ll notice that the builder’s decorated models often display bountiful decorative molding. It’s easy to recreate this look in your own home with just a few strips of trim. Find the style of trim you want at your local home improvement store and ask them to cut it to size (best to measure beforehand!). If it’s not pre-painted or stained pick up the color or shade you’ll need and paint it prior to installation. Once the trim is ready, simply use a nail gun to attach it to the top of the wall. If you want to get creative check out suggestions on Pinterest or take along a camera to record ideas next time you’re touring new construction model homes.
In the laundry room…Revamp, revitalize.
Replace any wiring shelving that came standard with your home with wood shelving or cabinets. A store like Ikea has a host of affordable and attractive options that will enliven the room and make more efficient use of space.
In the garage…Declutter! Clean and paint the floor.
It is only natural for garage floors to accumulate stains over time. Use newspaper to soak up any oil and try liquid dish soap to remove the more set-in stains. Soapy kitty litter can also help remove stains and absorb excess oil. If you find cracks in the concrete those can be easy to fill in, just ask at a home improvement store for the appropriate product. Also grab some garage floor paint. A new coat of paint will make the floor look as good as new!
